today is my sleeping day! was reading the pps and came across this:
Poly's nursing course is HOT,hot, hot!;
NYP has recieved such a deluge of applications for its Diploma in Nursing course this year, it is looking at taking in a second batch of students.
In an unprecedented development, it is likely to offer about 50 more places for its three-year course in October, six months after the first intake.
The polytechnic, which has been offering the diploma since 1992, apparently had to turn away a couple of hundred who qualified for the course this year, even though it took in about 100 students more than usual.

It is not clear what sparked the sudden interest in the profession, but Mr Khaw had suggested the activities and delication of nurses during the 2003 Sars outbreak, plus the many career exhibitions and talks and the higher salaries nurses get, could be the triggers.
Mr Anothony Woon, NYP's director of academic services, said it was impossible to accept all the applicants in April as the institution did not have enough qualified staff and because there were not enough places for the clinical attachments required.
